Any minute now, my grandma will show up. Of course, that leaves about an hour before we leave for Meme & Poppa's house. (AKA my grandparents. Little Me couldn't say Grammy, and Meme means Mary in Japanese. Mary=my grandma. Poppa=my grandpa, duh. Quick lesson in Brooke.) And 15 minutes to get there.
15 minutes to prepare myself to walk into a dogless house.
Yeah, that might be a little melodramatic for this situation. But when YOUR 12-year old dog gets put to sleep, after you've had her since you were TWO, you come and tell me that I'm being overdramatic.
Tell me that.
Today is going to be pure torture. I've never been in that house without Noel. Not since before I remember. (That made sense. Your head is just on backwards.) She was half-German Shepard, half-Husky. A big dog.
MY big dog. My grandma was her real owner, but she listened to me better than anyone else. Except my grandpa. He was her buddy. But she was my girl, and I was hers. She protected me like no one else.
She made me laugh, too. At 1O at night when my grandma was standing at the back door calling, "Nelly...Nelly...Noel come here baby...Noel..." she wouldn't even turn in Meme's direction. But then I came up to the door and yelled, "Nelsh here!" and she ran her little limp-jog-hop thing to the door and grinned at me.
Her little dog-grin.
I guess her getting put to sleep was a good thing. She'd been hurting for a while. Her hips were horrible. Every week she'd fall down the stairs, but she always
got up. But this last one, she couldn't.
At least last Sunday when I was leaving Meme & Poppa's house, I told her goodbye. I never did that. She
hated goodbye. The word goodbye. Hugs goodbye. Kisses goodbye. But this one last time, I said goodbye. I stood at the door, waved my hand toward where she was laying, and said, "Bye Noel."
And she didn't growl. Just smiled.
I'm not gonna go off on some 'oh it was a sign it was fate she did that because she knew it was the last time' HELL NO she didn't. I don't. I don't believe that.
But I am sure as hell glad that I did say that goodbye.
I got closure?
Whatever.
My mom says I growl like a chihuahua.
I refuse to eat chihuahua cheese since my grandpa told me they make chihuahua cheese out of chihuahuas.
I am gullible.
I am a gullible girl who growls like a chihuahua.
Bye now.
xoxo, Brooke.
